Eastern box turtle question?
My baby eastern box turtle, Daisy has been in her water dish a lot lately. Is this normal? when i wake up she is usually sitting in the water dish, and she stays there through out the day, until that night when i take her out to feed her, let her walk around the rug, and give her a bath. when i put her back in her cage, she goes right back in the water. she also has a bad smell. I’m not sure if its from sitting in her water all day, or if that means she is sick. she has a natural habitat, a sun lamp, and i mist her cage often, so it cant be that she is too hot. she also has her favorite hiding spots that she hasn’t visited in days.
should i take her to the vet? or is this normal? or is there anything else to do for her?
btw: she is about a year or so old, and I’m not sure is she is really a male or female. She also lives alone so she cant be pregnant
Box turtles do not need that much exposure to water. The smell could be rotting substrate or a beginning skin problem for your turtle. These are terrestrial turtles, not water turtles and do not need nor should they have constant immersion in water & they really don’t need to be misted either.
