Horse and bath time frustrations, please help.?
I have a new quarter pony, i’ve only had her one month and decided to give her a bath yesterday. She hates it. She moves completely side to side almost knocking me over, and pulling back. I don’t think her last owner ever gave her a bath. She is 16 yrs old and acts like this. The main problem is where I’m boarding her. They have two wash areas that are concrete with a rubber mat on it, but it does not cover the concrete completely on the sides. Also their are some pot holes and trenches in the dirt next to this wash area.My pony will not stand still so i’m afraid she will fall and hurt her legs on the concrete or pot holes. What can I do about her behavioir and should I just sponge bathe her? Or should I keep working with her in this wash area? The wash area is fine for a horse that will stand still but mine won’t, and I don’t need a vet bill for any leg injuries. I would love any advise on this.
the wash area is outside.
since you are limited to the area you can work her and the hoses are only so long take her to a grassy area with a spray bottle and a couple of 5 gallon buckets of water and a cup start with the water bottle and spray her with the water bottle and let her just go in circles until she settles down and she will then use a cup to pour water on her withers and slowly get her wet then wash her with soap and use the other bucket to rinse her off then the next time try her in the wash bay. If you can get a long hose use that instead of the spray bottle.
